Nashville Hot Chicken

Put some SPICE in your life with Nashville Hot Chicken!

The story goes that a woman decided to punish her cheating partner by heaping hot pepper on his chicken. It ended up tasting really good, and now the popularity of Nashville Hot Chicken is spreading.  Find out: What is Nashville Hot Chicken? Ingredients

 

6-8 Boneless Skinless Chicken thighs

1 qt Buttermilk

1/4 cup Flavolcano Hot Sauce (or your favorite hot sauce)

2 t cayenne pepper  

2 cups AP Flour 

3 T corn starch  

2 t garlic powder  

2 t onion powder  

1 t  smoked paprika  

 

Instructions

 

1.  Combine the buttermilk, cayenne pepper and Flavolcano hot sauce in a bowl.

2.  Add the chicken thighs and allow to marinade for 2-3 hours.

3.  Combine remaining dried ingredients in a separate bowl.

4.  Heat 2-3” of vegetable oil in a deep frying pan to 375°

5.  Remove the chicken from the buttermilk marinade and dredge in the flour mixture ensuring chicken is well coated. (recommend doing no more than 2 pieces at a time).

6.  Place the chicken directly in the heated oil for 5 minutes and turn over.

7.  Continue cooking in oil until an internal temperature of 170°.

8.  Remove from oil and place on a wire rack for 5 minutes.

9.  Drizzle the Nashville hot glaze (recipe below) over the chicken and serve and ENJOY!

 

Glaze

 

Ingredients

 

1/2 cup unsalted butter, clarified preferred

2 T cayenne pepper, more or less to taste  

2 T brown sugar  

2 t coarse kosher salt  

2 t white pepper  

2 t garlic powder  

1 t smoked paprika  

2 T honey 

1 t corn starch  

1 t water

 

Instructions

 

1.  Combine the butter, cayenne pepper, brown sugar, salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika and honey in a saucepan.

2.  Stir over low heat until combined.

3.  Mix the water and cornstarch until smooth.

4.  Add the cornstarch mixture to the glaze and allow to simmer for 5-10 minutes or until slightly thickened.

5.  Remove from heat.
