Garlic butter chicken typically features chicken (breasts or thighs), butter, and plenty of minced garlic, seasoned with salt, pepper, and herbs like parsley or Italian seasoning, often thickened with a bit of chicken broth, and sometimes dredged in flour for crispiness, with optional additions like lemon juice, paprika, or red pepper flakes for extra flavor.
How to make garlic butter chicken?
To make garlic butter chicken, you’ll season and sear chicken pieces until golden, then remove them; in the same pan, you’ll create a sauce by sautéing garlic in butter and oil, deglazing with broth (and optionally cream/lemon), and simmering until thickened; finally, return the chicken to the sauce to finish cooking and coat, garnishing with fresh parsley for a flavorful meal.

Garlic butter chicken pairs best with sides that absorb the rich sauce, such as creamy mashed potatoes, white/brown rice, risotto, or buttered pasta. Ingredients
For the Chicken:
12 boneless, skinless chicken thighs
4 T olive oil
8 T butter
12 cloves garlic, minced
1 T Italian seasoning (we used Cattleman’s Grill Italiano)
2 cups chicken broth
4 cups fresh spinach
4 sprigs of thyme
3/4 cup of heavy cream
2 7 oz cans of sliced mushrooms
For the Parmesan Rice:
3 cups long-grain white rice
4 1/2 cups chicken broth
1 1/2 cups grated parmesan cheese
6 T butter
salt and pepper to taste
fresh minced parsley
1. Sprinkle the chicken with salt and pepper or seasoning of your choice.
2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
3. In the same skillet, add the butter and let it melt.
4. Add the minced garlic and a few sprigs of fresh thyme and cook for about 1 minute until fragrant.
5. Stir in the chicken broth and Italian seasoning. Let the mixture simmer for 3-4 minutes until slightly reduced. Remove the thyme sprigs
6. Stir in the fresh spinach and cook until wilted.
7. Add the heavy cream and stir until mixed.
8. Add the chicken broth and rice to your rice cooker or instant pot and cook. (we cook rice in our Ninja Foodi on high pressure for 2 minutes with a 10 minute natural release)
9. After the rice is cooked, stir in the Parmesan cheese and butter until well combined. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
10. Place the cooked chicken back into the skillet with the garlic butter sauce. Spoon the sauce over the chicken to coat.
11. Serve the garlic butter chicken over a bed of Parmesan rice. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired. ENJOY!
