This AMAZING Cocktail will Blow your Socks Off!
A few weeks ago when on a tour of a rainforest in Costa Rica, we had an amazing drink. None of us caught the name, but we were able to recreate it at home and have christened it the Costa Rican Cocktail!
Things to know:
Is mandaricello similar to limoncello?
Mandaricello is a Sicilian mandarin-based liqueur that uses the same recipe as Limoncello: fruit peel, vodka and sugar syrup.
What is pure cane syrup?
Pure cane syrup is a liquid sweetener made from the juice of sugarcane, created by boiling the juice to evaporate the water and concentrate the sugars. It can be a traditional, less processed product with a rich, deep flavor similar to caramel and molasses, or a simple syrup made from pure cane sugar and water, designed to dissolve instantly in beverages. The specific flavor and characteristics depend on whether it’s the traditional, slow-simmered cane juice or a more modern, filtered simple syrup.
What is considered a white rum?
White rum, also called light or silver rum, is a clear spirit made from sugarcane byproducts like molasses or sugarcane juice. It is either bottled immediately after distillation or briefly aged before being filtered to remove any color. It is known for a lighter, more neutral flavor profile compared to darker rums, making it popular for cocktails like the Mojito and Daiquiri.
Where do cocktails originate?
The origin of “cocktail” is debated, but the term first appeared in print around 1798, defined by 1806 as a mix of spirits, sugar, water, and bitters, evolving from older mixed drinks like slings; theories for the name involve a French “coquetier” (egg cup), Aztec legend (Xochitl), or even spicing up horses’ tails (“cock-tailed”). While the word is mysterious, the cocktail as a distinct, defined drink flourished in America, with bartender Jerry Thomas‘s 1862 guide popularizing it, and New Orleans’ Sazerac often cited as the first named cocktail.
