How to Make the Most Decadent Chicken Parm Sloppy Joes... WOW!
Who doesn’t love Sloppy Joes? And Peyton Manning will tell you that Chicken Parm is delicious! Today, we combine the two!
Things to know:
What are the ingredients in a sloppy joe?
A classic sloppy joe contains ground beef and onions, with other common ingredients including ketchup, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce. Other variations also use green bell peppers, tomato sauce or paste, and various seasonings like mustard, garlic powder, chili powder, and black pepper. Ours include ground chicken, tomato sauce and paste, fresh herbs and toasted panko.
Why do they call it sloppy joe?
They call it a “sloppy joe” because the saucy ground beef filling is messy and tends to spill out of the bun, making it “sloppy” to eat. The name also has a debated origin, with two main theories: one is that a cook named Joe in Sioux City, Iowa, created the sandwich with tomato sauce and loose meat, and another suggests it was named after bars named “Sloppy Joe’s,” which were either in Havana, Cuba, or Key West, Florida, possibly due to their untidiness.
What sides go well with sloppy joes?
Classic sides that pair well with sloppy joes include potato-based options like fries, potato salad, or tater tots, and creamy or tangy salads like coleslaw or macaroni salad. Those are also good for our version. You can also opt for hot sides such as corn on the cob or baked beans, or lighter, fresh options like a green salad or roasted vegetables.
What does chicken parm stand for?
Chicken parmesan or chicken parmigiana (Italian: pollo alla parmigiana) is a dish that consists of breaded chicken breast covered in tomato sauce and mozzarella, Parmesan or provolone. Ham or bacon is sometimes added.
What cheese is usually on chicken parm?
Chicken Parmesan typically uses a combination of melty mozzarella (fresh or low-moisture) and sharp, nutty Parmesan cheese, often with some provolone for extra flavor, layered over breaded chicken, marinara sauce, and baked until bubbly and golden brown for that classic Italian-American comfort food experience.
Ingredients:
1 T canola oil
2 pounds ground chicken
1 yellow onion diced
2 cups tomato sauce
1/2 cup tomato paste
1 T Fresh diced basil
1 T Fresh diced oregano
1 1/2 cup mozzarella chunks
1/2 cup Parmesan cheese shaved
1 cup panko
2 T olive oil
parsley for garnish
6 brioche buns toasted
1. Add the canola oil, chicken and onions to a large skillet on medium high heat breaking it apart but leaving some chunks about the size of a raspberry or small grape (don’t crush the heck out of it, the larger crumbles will help give the sandwich stability).
2. Cook until well browned (5-6 minutes), then add in the tomato sauce, tomato paste, and Italian seasoning and continue cooking until the sauce starts to evaporate and the mixture becomes “sloppy” (about 5-6 minutes).
3. In a smaller skillet add the olive oil on medium high heat then add in the panko stirring until it starts to toast (about 1-2 minutes) then remove from the pan into a bowl to stop the cooking.
4. When the sauce is reduced top with mozzarella chunks.
5. Toast the buns then spoon over the chicken and cheese mixture, top with parmesan cheese and toasted panko. ENJOY!
