Birria Lasagna: Mexico Meets Italy with AMAZING Success!
Who doesn’t love Birria Tacos (also known as Red Tacos). And…who doesn’t love lasagna? We meld those two fantastic items into a dish you are sure to love! Find out: What is barria made of? What is the best beef for lasagna? What is barria sauce made of?
Ingredients – (I am not putting amounts on these. It all depends on how many you are cooking for and how much leftover Birria you might have)
Leftover Birria Meat
Leftover Birria consume
Oaxaca Cheese
Queso Fresco cheese
Corn (or Flour) tortillas (street taco size or just a bit bigger work best)
Cilantro – chopped
Mexican Creama
Directions:
1. Place a handful of Oaxaca cheese in a cast iron pan, heated to medium heat.
2. Dip a tortilla in some warmed consume.
3. Place the tortilla on top of the cheese and press down so the crisped cheese adheres to the tortilla. Let the cheese set for no longer than a minute.
4. Flip the tortilla and allow the non-cheesed side to crisp up a little, about 30 seconds.
5. Repeat as many times as you need to make 3 layers of tortillas that will cover the baking dish you are using.
6. Place a layer or tortillas in you baking dish, crisped cheese side up.
7. Spoon on a layer of the Birria meat on top of the tortillas.
8. Cover the meat layer with a mixture of Oaxaca and queso fresco cheese.
9. Spoon a layer of consume on top of the cheese.
10. Repeat the previous 4 steps.
11. Cover the baking dish with foil.
12. Place your baking dish in an oven (or smoker) at 350F for about 30 minutes.
13. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes to get the top cheese layer a little crispy.
14. Cut into portions. Once plated, garnish with chopped cilantro and Mexican creama.
15. Serve and ENJOY!
