Hot Ham N Cheese Sliders

AIR FRYER Hack for Perfect Hot Ham N Cheese Sliders

Here is our take on the Hardee’s Hot Ham and Cheese sandwich!  These new King Hawaiian Sliders rolls are a game changer!

Things to know:

What kind of cheese does Hardee’s use on their hot ham and cheese?

Hardee’s uses Swiss cheese on their Original Hot Ham ‘N’ Cheese™ sandwich. The sandwich features sliced ham and melted Swiss cheese served on a toasted Brioche-style bun, sometimes described as having a smoked, melty texture.

Is Hardees hot ham and cheese good?

Hardee’s Big Hot Ham ‘N’ Cheese is perhaps the most overlooked and under appreciated sandwich by many but is, by far, a superior treat in the fast food universe. So freaking good, AND it’s available for breakfast OR lunch/dinner!

What makes King’s Hawaiian rolls different?

King’s Hawaiian rolls are beloved for their signature, slightly sweet flavor and ultra-soft, fluffy texture, which is rooted in a traditional Portuguese sweet bread recipe featuring ingredients like sugar and milk. Their popularity stems from being a perfect balance of sweet and savory, making them ideal for sliders, sandwiches, and pairing with savory foods.

What is the secret ingredient in Hawaiian rolls?

The secret ingredient in Hawaiian rolls is pineapple juice, which provides the signature light, tropical sweetness, subtle tangy flavor, and characteristic golden color. It is often used alongside brown sugar or honey to create a tender, soft, and moist crumb.

What are the different types of King Hawaiian rolls?

King’s Hawaiian offers several types of rolls beyond their classic sweet ones, including Savory Butter Rolls, Jalapeño Rolls, Honey Wheat Rolls, and various pretzel buns (Slider & Hamburger), along with different shapes like hamburger buns, slider buns, and mini sub rolls, all maintaining that signature soft, sweet, or savory texture for diverse uses from dinner to sandwiches.

Where are King Hawaiian rolls manufactured?

King’s Hawaiian rolls are primarily manufactured in large production facilities in Torrance, California, and Oakwood, Georgia, serving as the company’s main production hubs for mainland U.S. distribution, though the brand originated in Hilo, Hawaii, and maintains its headquarters in California.

Ingredients

1 Box of King Hawaiian Rolls (24 count, 18 will fit in your Ninja XL Grill, or if you can find them, the King Hawaiian Sliders…they come in 3×3 squares, however, since they are slightly larger, you can fit only 15 of them)

2 pounds thin cut (just a bit thicker than shaved) Virginia Honey Ham

Enough slices of Swiss Cheese to give you a double layer and a single layer to cover the rolls (we used 16)

4 T  butter, salted

Sliced Peperoncinis

Mayo

Deli Horseradish (Optional)

1. Preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees.

2. While the air fryer is heating up, in a small bowl, melt the salted butter in the microwave.

3. Just as the air fryer has reached 400 degrees, cut the Hawaiian Rolls in half without separating them.  You will be able to fit 2 3×3 roll squares side by side.  Using a brush, brush the inside surfaces of the bun with a light coating of half of the melted butter on each cut side.

4. Once buttered, place the bottom half of the rolls into the air fryer so that the buttered side of the bun faces up. Toast the rolls for 3 minutes.

5. Set the toasted bun aside and repeat with the top side.

6. Divide the ham into two 1 lb piles.

7. On two pieces of parchment paper, roll the ham into tubes so that they equal the roll’s width. If you have more ham than the bun’s width, just put the remaining ham on top of the bottom layer. Repeat this process with the other pile.

8. Having laid a foundation of ham, top the ham with sliced pepperocinni (optional), then a layer of Swiss cheese on 1 pile and a double layer of Swiss cheese on the other and lightly press down.

9. Place the parchment papers with the ham and cheese in the air fryer and cook for 3 minutes or until the cheese is nice and melted. IMPORTANT: MAKE SURE THAT THE PARCHMENT PAPER IS JUST LONG ENOUGH TO PICK THE MEAT UP OUT OF THE AIR FRYER, BUT NOT TOO LONG SO THAT IT BLOWS UP AND HITS THE HEATING ELEMENT. IT COULD CAUSE A FIRE!

10. Once the cheese has melted, and the meat has warmed in the air fryer, remove the parchment paper from the air fryer basket.

11. Spread mayo, or if you are really cool, Deli Horseradish in the bottom roll halves, then using a spatula, remove one pile of meat and cheese from the parchment paper and place it on top of the bottom rolls.

12. Repeat the process and place the other pile of meat on top of the first pile.

13. Top the meat and cheese with the top of the rolls and ENJOY!
